| Highly individual and almost sculptural in its results, letterpress printing marks the revival of elegant, social correspondence. It was the country's predominant form of printing until the 1940s. Today, only a small amount of high-quality art and hobby letterpress printing remain.
Using the oldest form of printing on a restored 19th century Heidelburg press, Chauhie captures the delicate beauty and tactile warmth that is so often lost in more modern printing techniques. After developing custom designed illustrations, Chauhie creates plates from the original artwork that are then inked with custom mixed colors and hand fed through the vintage press. The process results in a beautiful debossed effect that combines texture, color and dimension. Fine letterpress work is crisper because of its impression into the paper, giving greater visual definition to the type and artwork. Please view the Chauhie order process. |
